Student Resources
Studying social work means making the most of your education and your time at NC State. To help you achieve this goal, explore these tools and tips.
Student Organizations
Enrich your student experience by getting involved in extracurricular activities and honor societies on campus.
School of Social Work Student Ambassadors
The SSWA aims to represent our Social Work student community across NC State campus and beyond.
Baccalaureate Student Social Work Association
Through workshops and engagement activities, the BSSWA strives to complement the academic requirements of the undergraduate social work program at NC State.
Graduate Student Social Work Association
The GSSWA enhances and promotes the academic, professional and social development of graduate students in social work.
Phi Alpha Honor Society (Epsilon Kappa Chapter)
The Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Phi Alpha National Honor Society was established in 1995 to recognize social work students who excel academically.
Men in Social Work
Men in Social Work provides a network and resource for men in our school and our male alumni. We create a rapport among students and alumni to support males interested in pursuing social work careers.
Child Welfare Collaborative
The North Carolina Child Welfare Collaborative strengthens public child welfare services in the state by increasing the numbers and diversity of well-trained BSW’s and MSW’s working in local Departments of Social Services. Students complete a Child Welfare course and seminar as well as complete their internship in a Child Welfare agency.
Wolfpack Beds
Wolfpack Beds is a student organization that began as a service project in 2023. Their main project is to use recycled plastic grocery bags to create transportable sleeping mats for the unhoused community in Raleigh who are unable to access shelter.
Advising
Field Practicum
As a Social Work student at NC State, you’ll think and do by applying what you learn in the classroom in the field. Our undergraduate and graduate students complete their field practicum at diverse placements ranging from nonprofits to social services agencies. We believe your field practicum is the most essential component of your social work education.
Our prep for field courses help you identify your interests within the field and then our field coordinator(s) will assist you with finding the right placement. Weekly supervision and field seminars will help you reflect on what you’re learning and how best to work with different clients and in different scenarios.
Wolfpack Wellness
Financial Aid
Fellowships, scholarships and financial aid are available to all students. Be sure to submit documents early when applying as there are many students who apply for these programs.
Newly admitted students must pay their advanced enrollment deposit immediately after accepting admission into NC State. Keep in mind that your advisor will not be able to see any of your information until 24 hours after you have paid your advanced enrollment deposit.
All students have the option to make payments on your NC State tuition bills by using the Tuition Management System. This payment plan, allows students to make five small payments towards their bill. Visit the link provided for further details.
In the event that a student is denied financial assistance, students have the opportunity to appeal for the aid they were denied. Contact your financial aid officer or academic advisor for more information.
