Karen Bullock Named Head, Department of Social Work

The Department of Social Work welcomes Karen Bullock as head, effective July 1, 2013. Bullock joined NC State in January 2011 after nine years as a tenured faculty member at the School of Social Work at the University of Connecticut. She has been a leading force in advancing social work practice, education and training in gerontology, mental health and care at end of life.

2013 Faculty Awards

Faculty from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences were recently recognized for outstanding accomplishments in teaching, advising, research and engagement at an awards ceremony and reception in Caldwell Lounge. Ramping Up Suicide Prevention at NC State

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students. Social Work researchers Willa Casstevens and Jodi Hall have received a federal campus suicide prevention grant that they hope will help change campus culture around suicide, and ultimately, change the statistics, too.

Hard Work in High School Pays Off for Dean’s Scholar Award Winners

CHASS awarded its first Dean’s Scholar Awards to four incoming freshmen who were high school standouts. "We wanted to encourage the best and brightest to make NC State and CHASS their first choice,” said Dean Jeff Braden. “After meeting with our first crop of Dean's Scholars, I’m convinced we’re on the right path. These students will make us proud." The scholarships are made possible through contributions to the CHASS Enhancement Fund.
