Dr. Maura Nsonwu Earns National Recognition with Textbook Excellence Award

Dr. Maura Nsonwu, and co-authors Dr. Noël Busch-Armendariz, University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work and Dr. Laurie Cook Heffron, St. Edward’s University School of Behavioral and Social Sciences, received the Textbook and Academic Authors Association’s (TAA) Textbook Excellence Award for “Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory, and Case Studies for Social Workers and the Helping Professions.”

The Textbook Excellence Award, or “Texty”, recognizes excellence in current textbooks and learning materials. Works are judged by textbook authors and subject matter experts for their merits in four categories: Pedagogy, Content/Scholarship, Writing, and Appearance & Design.

“This book is a culmination of the best scholarship, research, and theory that can be applied to understanding the complex issues and implications of human trafficking,” said Dr. Nsonwu. “We are honored by this recognition of our work preparing future social workers to confront human trafficking with both compassion and evidence-based interventions across micro, mezzo, and macro practice.”
