Dr. Kim Earns Distinguished Service Award
On August 23, 2024, Dr. Sung-Ju Kim, Associate Professor at the NC State School of Social Work, was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Korean-American Scientists and Technologists Association (KASSTA).
This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Kim’s outstanding contributions to the organization, particularly his roles as a nonprofit and business advisor. Additionally, the award celebrates his ongoing commitment to advancing KASSTA’s initiatives and promoting space and aeronautic-related science and engineering.
As a nonprofit advisor, Dr. Kim played a pivotal role in ensuring the organization’s compliance with federal and state standards. As a business advisor, he was able to offer crucial guidance on managerial issues regarding tax reporting, bylaw development, policy creation, and other legal matters to help maintain their nonprofit status.
Speaking on his motivations to support KASSTA, Dr. Kim said, “Empowering small minority nonprofits is essential, as they often face unique challenges in navigating the complexities of registration, tax compliance, and legal management—barriers that can limit their potential to serve the communities that need them most.”
