At the start of the fall semester, the first School of Social Work (SSW) Student Ambassadors Program cohort will begin their tenure.

As part of a freshly reorganized initiative, the ambassadors will work directly with the School to implement campus outreach campaigns, collaborate with local organizations, and promote growth within the larger social work community.

Emily Falconer and Kianna Redetzke were recently selected as the inaugural SSW Student Ambassadors.

A rising senior in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, Emily Falconer has been a highly active member of the NC State community. She is currently the sitting Vice-President of the Baccalaureate Student Social Work Association Executive Board (BSSWA), a Mental Health Ambassador for the NC State MHA Program, and the Mental Health Co-Chair for Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority. Most recently, Emily organized the seventh annual Outrace the Stigma 5k, a local run/walk that benefits the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Speaking on the potential of the program, Emily said, “As a new organization, I believe that the Student Ambassador Program can help advance the School of Social Work forward as a leading unit on campus, as well as a leading program in Social Work Education by integrating social work, an underrepresented profession and major on campus, with other academic disciplines and campus initiatives.”

Kianna Redetzke, also a rising senior in the BSW Program, has displayed a high level of excellence in the local community. Currently a Program Coordinator at The Resiliency Collaborative, she frequently works with community groups to interpret programs and policy. During her time at her work study, Kianna has gained experience developing printed materials, producing videos, and organizing vital workshops for community members.

Looking forward to her role in the program, Kianna said, “Becoming a part of the SSW Student  Ambassador Program will allow me to further engage with my peers and the broader community, advocating for the importance of social work education and the impact it can have on individuals and communities. I am excited about representing the SSW and contributing to its mission of fostering change and promoting social justice.”

“Our School is thrilled to have Emily and Kianna join the Student Ambassador Program…,” said Dr. Yarneccia D. Dyson, Executive Director and Head of the School of Social Work.
