Dr. David Fitzpatrick Promoted to Associate Teaching Professor

Dr. David Fitzpatrick, a lecturer and professor with the School of Social Work since 2013, has been promoted to the position of Associate Teaching Professor.

Over the last nine years, Dr. Fitzpatrick has taught the course Hunger and Homelessness, a course that aims to familiarize students with the history and experience of hunger and homelessness in contemporary American society. Additionally, he has taught the Social Work Capstone, Research Methods, and other required courses. Most notably, Dr. Fitzpatrick established the Addiction Recovery Pathway to Certification for NC State MSW Students.

Dr. Fitzpatrick has also dedicated his attention to supervising students seeking the LCAS-A credential. Recently, he was the leading force in securing funding from the North Carolina Governor’s Institute. This funding awarded $5,000 Scholarships to each selected student in the LCAS-A specialty track.

According to Dr. Bullock, Head of the School of Social Work, “Dr. Fitzpatrick brings a much-needed and unique interprofessional practice approach to his teaching and learning. His commitment to preparing students for clinical practice in addiction recovery fostered ongoing community partnerships with agencies and representatives of the field to assist in carrying out the mission of a top ranked social work program, nationally. Creating a pathway to licensure has expanded the possibilities for our students to secure employment upon graduation and to extend our land-grant mission to remain community focused, in all that we do. Dr. Fitzpatrick is the epitome of student-centered, community engaged faculty member and I congratulate him on his successful promotion!!!”

In addition to his contributions to the School of Social, Dr. Fitzpatrick is on the Board of Directors at the Governor’s Institute and is the Chair of the Board of Trustees at Healing Transitions. He also enjoys regularly volunteering with homeless populations in his spare time.
