A Partnership to Address Domestic Violence

The NC State School of Social Work is pleased to announce a new grant-funded partnership with the Office of Gender-Based Violence at Arizona State University! This partnership aims to expand Survivor Link, a support network of domestic violence advocates, through the Public Health AmeriCorps program.

This coming fall, the School of Social Work will be one of 14 universities across 11 states working to improve the public health response to intimate partner violence by building capacity among community agencies. To support these efforts, the grant includes funding for three field placements at local non-profits, training, and networking nationwide with other social work students dedicated to disrupting gender-based violence. The selected students for these field placements will join a cohort of 99 Survivor Link and Public Health AmeriCorps service members from across the U.S. Dr. Maura Nsonwu and the School of Social Work’s Field Faculty – Dr. Stephanie Francis, Professor Trinette Langley, and Professor Michelle Guarino will manage the program.

Looking forward to the fall, Dr. Nsonwu says, “The School of Social Work is excited to partner with the Survivor Link + Public Health AmeriCorps program as it offers students a learning opportunity to respond to domestic violence in public health setting through education, public awareness, and evidence-based interventions thereby strengthening our local community.”
