Ramona Bullock-Johnson and Jazmine Thompson Chosen as Distinguished CSWE Fellows
Ramona Bullock-Johnson and Jazmine Thompson, both NC State MSW students, have been announced as recipients of the 2019-2020 Council on Social Work Education’s Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Award!
As part of the program, they will receive a 1-year fellowship that includes specialized training in mental health and/or substance use disorder issues of racial/ethnic minority populations, a monetary stipend, and other professional development support. As of last year, students were provided with a monetary stipend of $6,500.
This distinguished fellowship program is funded by SAMHSA, and is designed to “enhance the training of full-time, masters-level, direct practice-focused social work students in their final year of study.” The fellowship primarily targets students whose studies focus on mental health and/or substance use disorder service to racial/ethnic minority populations, with emphasis on children, adolescents, and/or transition-aged youths.
The program typically includes an all-expenses-paid 2.5-day training opportunity in Alexandria, VA in late March. During this training, fellows attend an educational day on Capitol Hill and meet with members of the House and Senate. Unfortunately, due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, this trip has been postponed due to a later date.
