Student Spotlight: Timothy McDonald Jr.

Timothy McDonald Jr., a graduate student at NC State University, is the recent recipient of the NC  4-H Extension Program Fellowship. While an exceptional student in the Department of Social Work, Timothy also excels outside the classroom.

Hailing from the city of Durham, Timothy has a wide array of talents and hobbies that he enjoys outside the classroom. Starting at the age of 15, he showed an interest in musical instruments. To this day, Timothy regularly plays his favorite instrument, the ukulele, but is also skilled at the piano and guitar.

Currently, Timothy is focusing on obtaining his Masters of Social Work. However, he is simultaneously working a full-time internship with AMI Kids, a non-profit that helps at-risk youth. At this moment, he plans to continue his studies primarily in the field of mental health and substance abuse prevention. According to Mr. McDonald, “One day I hope to obtain a clinical license in the field of social work and continue to work from there.”

The NC 4-H Extension Program aims to provide intensive relationship and communication education for families with a focus on providing research-based information about the impact and statistics related to opioid misuse specifically to help youth and families make informed, healthy decisions. As a result of receiving this fellowship with their program, Mr. McDonald will have the opportunity to contribute meaningful research in the area of opioid addiction, prevention, and education to youth and their families.
