Department of Social Work Faculty & Staff Accept ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge

ALS Challenge

The Department of Social Work Faculty and Staff were recently challenged by Laurie Messinger of UNCW to complete the ALS ice bucket challenge. Dr. Karen Bullock, Head of the Department of Social Work, accepted the challenge along with faculty members Kim Andreaus, Allen Ellis, Dr. Willa Casstevens, and Dr. Jodi Hall.  The participants graciously accept the challenge in honor of Marcus Waralice who has recently been diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). In response to the call, Dr. Bullock enlisted the help of some current undergraduate students to help dump the ice water on the participants. In response to completing the challenge, it is customary to challenge others to follow suit. Dr. Bullock challenges the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Jeffery Braden and Assistant Dean Betty Byrum to the ice bucket challenge. In addition, Kim Andreaus challenges Rebecca Brigham of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) in the School of Social Work. Alan Ellis challenges Dr. Marcie Fisher-Borne of the Department of Social Work, here at North Carolina State University. Dr. Casstevens challenges Ann Jones also of the School of Social Work at UNC-CH. Finally, Dr. Hall challenges all of her former colleagues at Wake County Human Services including Case Managers, Social Workers, and Human Services professionals.
