Celebrating Social Work Month: Social Workers Are Essential

NC State School of Social Work Community,

Happy Social Work Month! I hope each of you are healthy and well.

During these most challenging times, I cannot say enough about how outstanding the efforts, commitment and dedication of the NC State School of Social Work faculty, staff and students have been over the past six months.  The faculty have worked tirelessly to deliver the necessary continuity of teaching and learning, as well as student support services. Since August, they have made abrupt shifts between complete virtual delivery of courses, programs, and services, or assisting and supporting our NC State community in managing health and safety protocols in the interest of maintaining and sustaining the health and safety of our campus community.

While this academic year has been equally as challenging as last year, due to COVID-19, I thank our School of Social Work community of students, staff and faculty for your continued success and expansive possibilities for innovation. As the pandemic has become increasingly challenging, your responses and resiliency help to strengthen and move the School of Social Work forward, together. I have heard you “loud and clear” about requests for on campus face-to-face course delivery, and flexibility for offering online classes. The students that are coming to campus for instruction feel their needs are being met, as do the students that are fully engaged in online classes. Thank you for the flexibility and feasibility of these options for teaching and learning!

Without question, your resiliency, collaborative engagement, investment in academic success and support of each other are valued and appreciated. Please let me know what (if anything) I can do to further support you during these times, not only during Social Work Month, but all year long.

THANK YOU for your dedication and commitment to excellence at NC State School of Social Work.

Be well and always remember to engage in self-care.

HAPPY SOCIAL WORK MONTH!!!

Sincerely,

Karen Bullock, PhD, LCSW
