Karen Bullock Among 13 Chosen for the University Global Partnership Network
Dr. Karen Bullock (pictured above) has been chosen to participate in a key Global Engagement Institute initiative, the University Global Partnership Network (UGPN).
Professor Bullock conducts research on the social determinants of health for older adults, which could have far-reaching implications for persons living with serious illness, as well as, challenge values and principles that determine how healthcare institutions are structured and function. After years of exploring hospice and palliative care among diverse populations with non-curable diseases, in the US, Dr. Bullock will travel to Wollongong, Australia, to examine mental health and social well-being, as important factors for global public health concern, through UGPN faculty global engagement. As one of the recently selected faculty fellows of NC State’s Global Engagement Institute, this academic year (2019-2020), she will focus on strengthening and enhancing the Department of Social Work’s capacity to collaborate with our global partners at the University of Wollongong and develop a pipeline for global educational exchange and faculty professional development, with the primary goal of creating a transfer of knowledge through an active international network of global partners who will collaborate on research, teaching and learning to advance globalization in Social Work.
Dr. Bullock was nominated as a faculty fellow to represent the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and her research proposal for this global engagement was endorsed by Dr. Blair Kelley, Assistant Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies and International Programs.
