The Department of Social Work Hosts First Annual Homecoming Celebration
On Friday, October 28th, Department of Social Work at NC State held its First Annual Homecoming Celebration and Open House. The free event, which was hosted in the Atrium of the historic 1911 building and co-sponsored by the Social Work Advisory Board, included hors d’oeuvres and NC State’s famous Howling Cow Ice Cream.
Those in attendance included past and present Department of Social Work faculty and staff, alumni, students, friends and practice colleagues. The evening event, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, was well attended and various activities focused on networking and reconnecting. “The attendance surpassed our expectations for the first annual event!” said Dr. Karen Bullock, the Head of the Department of Social Work, “I was thoroughly impressed and overjoyed to see such cheer and enthusiasm among the alumni and friends that took place during the event.” For those who could not attend this year, please plan ahead for next year’s Homecoming gathering. We invite you to check out website (https://socialwork.chass.ncsu.edu/) frequently for updates.
Dr. Casstevens also comments that the event was a “wonderful opportunity to reconnect with graduates” and that she “would like to thank the Social Work Advisory Council for hosting the event”. She looks forward to the event becoming an annual tradition.
Dr. Bullock confirmed that the Department will “certainly keep these type of alumni connections going, in years to come!”
Saturday following the event, some of the alumni also attended the Alumni Homecoming Tailgate and football game against Boston College.
