Faculty
Alan Ellis: Durham native Alan Ellis came to NC State in July 2014 after 17 years at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he played various roles in research, spending the last 11 years as a research associate at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research. He has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, focusing primarily on mental health services. His key research interests are mental health promotion, child well-being, and methods for comparative effectiveness research. In addition to research, Ellis enjoys writing and teaching. In his first year with the Department of Social Work, he taught the advanced research course and the capstone course. Ellis has joined the Department of Social Work as an Assistant Professor.

Melissa Hardesty: Melissa Hardesty’s recently completed dissertation research was an ethnographic study of front line adoption and foster care caseworkers in a concurrent planning foster care adoption program. It focused on the ways in which workers handle simultaneous calls to be objective and offer perspective, and how they juggle “ethical labor,” including balancing ethical principles and the demands of day-to-day practice. Her other research interests include gender and sexuality, kinship and ethnographic methods. Hardesty’s other current projects include, a small online feminism project in which she compares posts made to popular feminist and anti-feminist tumblr pages. Alex Willard, a student in the MSW program, is also working on this project.

Staff
Daniel Corn: Daniel Corn joined the Department of Social Work in Spring of 2015 as the new Student Services Coordinator. Corn had worked with NC State in Registration and Records since 2008 prior to joining the Department of Social Work.

Paige L. Moore: Charlotte-raised Paige Moore joined the Department of Social Work as the University Program Assistant to Department Head Dr. Bullock in late November 2014. Moore is a recent graduate of NC State and received an award in May 2014 in honor of her service to those she mentored on campus. She is also Editor of the Department of Social Work’s 2015 newsletter and serving as the Transitional Academic Advising Coordinator.
