Keynote Speaker

Dr. Kevin McCauley


Dr. Kevin McCauley wrote and directed two films: “Memo to Self” about the concepts of recovery management, and “Pleasure Unwoven” about the neuroscience of addiction which won the 2010 Michael Q. Ford Award for Journalism from the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers. He is an engaging and renowned speaker on the topic of addiction. Currently, he is a Senior Fellow at The Meadows of Wickenburg, Arizona.


Panelist & Moderator

Virgil Hayes, MSW


Virgil Hayes is a manager on the Drug User Health team at NASTAD. Within this role, Virgil develops resources, provides technical assistance to public health systems, and collaborates with various teams to improve the health of drug users. Prior to NASTAD, Virgil served as the Appalachian Harm Reduction Services Coordinator and Advocacy Manager for the NC Harm Reduction Coalition. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from The College of Staten Island and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.
