Dept. of Social Work - Student Laptop Guidelines
Laptops for Social Work students are provided through funding from the Educational Technology Fund (ETF). The laptops are intended to support students in their university-related work and are not to be checked out for personal use. For university computer use regulations, please refer to http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/informationtechnology/REG08.00.2.php
- Field students who do not have adequate access to a computer to complete work in the field agency have priority for semester loans. Consultation with the field instructor and field coordinator is required.
- Students who require laptops for research course work have priority and may check out computers for specific projects for set periods of time.
- During semesters or summer sessions when SW 511 Evaluation of Social Work Interventions is being held, two laptops with SPSS and ATLAS.ti will be retained by the department for short-term loans (one week).
- BSW students who have matriculated and full or part-time MSW students may check out a laptop.
- Non-majors, post-baccalaureate students, lifelong students, non-degree students, or social work minors may not check out a laptop.
- Students may check out a laptop for a period no longer than a semester. Under special circumstances, a student may be allowed to renew for one additional semester. Consultation with the faculty advisor is required.
- If you currently have a laptop or use of a desktop at your residence, we ask that you do not check out a laptop.
- Any teaching assistant or research assistant who has access to a desktop in the office, is asked to use those computers and not check out laptops unless specifically requested to do so to complete an assigned activity or project.
