Financial Aid

The Department of Social Work encourages applicants to apply for financial aid using the Federal Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) as close to January 1st of the year one plans to attend. In addition, the Department offers several sources of financial assistance for MSW students. Please contact the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid listed below with general questions about how to apply for financial aid.

The Toby Brown Scholarship

Awarded to outstanding undergraduate students, financial assistance is given for the recipient's graduate education.

Teaching Assistants

The MSW program may offer two students the paid opportunity to assist professors. The teaching assistantship (TA) will be granted for one academic year and require 20 hours of service per week. A student who is appointed directly participates in the teaching mission of the Department of Social Work or provides general support to the teaching mission of the department.

Research Opportunities

The Department of Social Work is involved in many different research projects. Some of these require paid student research assistants. Some projects are eligible for university research awards. Please inquire for more information if you are interested in assisting with research work.

The Garrett Renal Disease Social Work Scholarship

Dr. Lee Garrett and his wife Nancy have established a scholarship for a graduate student who (a) is already working in a dialysis clinic; and/or (b) shows an interest in medical social work with patient experiencing renal failure."

Field Fund: Travel Assistance

Students may request travel assistance to their field placement agencies if the distance between the agency and their home exceeds 60 miles round trip.  The amount given will serve as an assist only and is not meant to cover the total travel cost for the semester or placement year.  Amounts for assistance per student/per placement may not exceed $150 a semester.  Assistance will be given in a one-time payment upon approval of the request. Additional Funding

The Social Work Advisory Council offers financial assistance for conferences, seminars, etc.. The amount of monies available varies each semester. Students are encouraged to submit a written request to the Council in advance then turn in all receipts for reimbursement. Please submit all materials to Mary Malaythong.
