Advanced Standing MSW Curriculum
Advanced Standing students take one year of advanced coursework, with classes beginning in the summer session(s).
Curriculum Sequence
Summer Session I - 7 hours
SW 505: Social Justice
SW 500: Advanced Practice Review Seminar
Fall - 16 hours
SW 561: Administration and Supervision
SW 581: Advanced Practice with Individuals
SW 582: Advanced Practice with Groups
SW 512: Advanced Social Work Research
SW 653: Advanced Social Work Internship I (24 hours/week in the field)
Spring - 16 hours
SW 557: Program Development and Grant Writing
SW 583: Advanced Practice with Family Systems
SW 560: Advanced Policy Practice with Organizations and Communities
SW 590: Capstone
SW 654: Advanced Social Work Internship II (24 hours/week in the field)
Students must register for each semester exactly as listed in the above curriculum sequence. Some courses are only offered in the semesters listed. Failure to follow the course curriculum sequence may result in the inability to graduate on time. Students must consult with their advisors prior to registering.
Summer courses may be offered to lighten the course load in the fall and spring semesters. The Department's ability to offer summer courses is contingent upon a course enrollment of 15 students per course.
Information for Applicants
Applicants with a BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution and and overall GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) may apply for Advanced Standing status. BSW students who graduate prior to the first semester of Advanced Standing coursework will be considered for admission.
Applicants must have grades of "B" or better in all social work courses.
In addition to the standard admissions packet for the MSW Program at NCSU, provide a reference from your Field/Task Supervisor or your Field Director/Liaison.
Note: Students entering the Advanced Standing program in 2011 will begin classes in the first summer session, which starts May 23, 2011.
